Rare Carat vs. Brilliant Earth FAQs
Is Rare Carat better than Brilliant Earth?
We at Rare Carat believe that by purchasing an engagement ring with us, you’ll get the most value for your money. Rare Carat offers an enormous selection of diamonds and settings at prices for every budget.
We’re top-rated for customer satisfaction (5.0 Trustpilot vs. Brilliant Earth’s 4.2) , and we provide unbiased expert guidance. Both companies prioritize ethical sourcing, but Rare Carat’s marketplace model means you won’t pay a premium for a brand name.
We have heard from countless customers that Rare Carat has more choices, better prices, and more support – all with the same (or higher) level of trust and quality assurance.
How can Rare Carat offer lower prices than Brilliant Earth for the same diamonds?
Rare Carat operates on a unique “managed marketplace” model that prioritizes your savings. Unlike Brilliant Earth, which maintains its own inventory which can come with higher overhead, Rare Carat leverages a vast network of vetted suppliers.
This means with Rare Carat you’re getting access to a vast selection of diamonds at genuinely wholesale-derived pricing. Our advanced AI constantly scans thousands of diamonds to identify the best value. Brilliant Earth, while offering beautiful rings, can struggle to match the inherent pricing advantage of a direct-to-supplier model focused on transparency.
Are Rare Carat’s diamonds as ethical and conflict-free as Brilliant Earth’s?
While Brilliant Earth heavily markets its “Beyond Conflict Free” standard, Rare Carat offers a straightforward and equally robust approach to ethical sourcing without the premium price tag. We feature GIA-certified or IGI-certified diamonds, ensuring every stone meets stringent industry standards for quality and origin.
Furthermore, Rare Carat provides a wide selection of lab-grown diamonds, which offer an inherently conflict-free and environmentally conscious alternative. This allows you to make a truly informed and ethical choice without paying extra.
What kind of expert guidance can I expect from Rare Carat versus Brilliant Earth?
Although Brilliant Earth has a knowledgeable and professional team, Rare Carat provides expert, unbiased advice designed solely around your best interest.
Our GIA-trained gemologists are here to act as your advocates, offering expert advice without the pressure of a commission. This ensures you receive truly objective guidance on the 4Cs and diamond selection.
Can I trust Rare Carat to buy a diamond I haven’t seen in person?
Yes! While buying online sight-unseen can feel unnerving, Rare Carat has built in multiple layers of reassurance to make it as safe and easy as possible. Every diamond sold by Rare Carat is certified and purchased from large, thoroughly vetted, and reputable sightholders. Each diamond then goes through a meticulous two step verification process, all conducted under multiple cameras with 24 hour stored recording.
First, every diamond is put through an inscription check. All our diamonds carry microscopic inscriptions on the girdle, which serve as unique identifiers linked to their GIA or IGI certificate. We inspect this under 60x–110x magnification until it’s clearly visible on-screen, then match it precisely to the certificate number and take photographs. Next, we run every diamond through our first authenticity check layer: an advanced UV light diamond tester machine, widely used by professionals in the wholesale industry since it has the highest degree of accuracy. This device uses UV light technology to detect fluorescence and confirm authenticity. For certain rare diamonds (like Type IIa), we take an extra step by testing them in a Yehuda machine, and when further verification is needed, we send diamonds directly to GIA New York for verification servicing.
