Diamond Authenticity Inspection

Every diamond Rare Carat sells goes through a two-step documented, camera-recorded verification process.
All diamonds available at Rare Carat are certified (GIA, IGI, or GCAL) and conflict-free.
Once a diamond arrives at Rare Carat’s facility, it goes through a two-step verification process, all done under camera:
  • Step 1, inscription check: Using magnification between 60x and 110x, the microscopic laser inscription on the diamond’s girdle is located and matched to its certificate number. If the inscription isn’t clear or legible, the diamond is sent back to the lab for correction.
  • Step 2, authenticity testing: Professional-grade UV fluorescence machines confirm the stone is exactly what it claims to be. For rarer diamonds, such as Type IIa, additional testing is done with a Yehuda machine, or the stone is sent to GIA New York for further confirmation.
To Rare Carat’s knowledge, it’s the only online jewelry brand that documents this entire process on camera. This same standard of scrutiny carries through to the finished jewelry itself, every piece is inspected multiple times during manufacturing and again before it ships.
Grading reports work a little differently depending on the lab.
IGI and GCAL-graded lab-grown diamonds come with a paper copy of the grading report. GIA-graded lab-grown diamonds have a digital report accessible through GIA’s report lookup page, and the diamond itself is laser inscribed on the girdle, with the report number printed on the receipt for easy lookup.
Natural diamonds form in the earth over billions of years, while lab-grown diamonds are grown by professionals in a controlled setting.
Both are chemically and physically identical, with the same optical properties, and only a trained gemologist with specialized equipment can tell them apart, which is exactly why Rare Carat’s verification process exists.
