Cut is the most important factor. When an experienced gemologist picks up a diamond grading report, their eyes go to very specific values. They are looking to see if these fall within the desired ranges. Seemingly unimportant values like the depth percentage have a large effect on how your diamond will sparkle - and these values differ for each shape.
Follow the checklist prepared by our gemologists to see how your diamond fares. If it misses by a little bit on one or two, that’s fine, but we recommend trying to find a stone that passes on all:
Property | Target | Diamond |
---|---|---|
Symmetry | Very Good or better | Very Good |
Polish | Very Good or better | Excellent |
Girdle Thickness | Thin to Very Thick | M. Thick |
Table | 55% - 65% | 59.0% |
Depth | 61% - 68% | 68.2% |
Color:
Your 0.25 carat Cushion natural diamond is graded D color (Colorless), and you can read more about D color diamonds here.
Color is graded beginning with D (Colorless). Learn more about diamond color here. The market prices colorless diamonds higher as they are rarer, but some people prefer warmer colored stones.
Our gemologists check for following color issues before recommending a diamond:
Property | Target | Diamond |
---|---|---|
Color | K-D | D |
Artificial Treatment | No | No |
Fluorescence Color | None or Blue | None |
Fluorescence Strength | Faint or less | None |
Clarity:
Your 0.25 carat Cushion natural diamond is graded VVS1 clarity, which stands for Very Very Slightly Included 1. Read more about VVS1 clarity diamonds here, or learn more about diamond clarity in general here.
There are minimum clarities our gemologists prefer for each shape, but beyond that clarity is a matter of budget and preference. People typically aim for an eye clean stone. Also, our gemologists have certain deal-breakers when it comes to clarity. For example, our gemologists always avoid stones with a cavity, because with one wrong hit your diamond can crack.
Use the checklist below to ensure your diamond passes. Consult us before purchasing to see if any other nuanced issues are present:
Property | Target | Diamond |
---|---|---|
Clarity | SI1 or above | VVS1 |
Cavity | No | Yes |
Chip | No | No |
Knot | No | No |
Laser Hole | No | No |
Etch Channel | No | No |
Patch | No | No |

My fiancé never felt remotely stressed during the process. He had the absolute best experience from picking the setting, to the diamond, to placing the order and receiving the ring. The ring is more beautiful than I could have ever expected. Hannah Diamond Halo Engagement Ring, yellow gold, 1.6 carat marquise

The stone is absolutely beautiful. The setting was a perfect accent to the stone. I will definitely be using Rare Carat again for future purchases! Communication was great from all parties involved. I couldn't have asked for a better purchase experience! I asked my wife to marry me again after 30 years of marriage and she said yes!

Fast, affordable, excellent customer service, and SUPERIOR CRAFTSMANSHIP! We originally ordered a ring from Ritani in June and we were absolutely horrified at the experience. The difference between Ritani and Rare Carat was like night and day. Rare Carat answered all of our questions and concerns pretty much all hours of the day (thanks to their chat feature), and they followed-up within a reasonable time frame. We even tested this theory - we asked Ritani and Rare Carat for hand videos at the same time for the exact same diamond and Rare Carat got back to us in 24 hours. Ritani got back to us in 5 BUSINESS days. This is not ideal when shopping for diamonds because you will be requesting videos left and right for hundreds of diamonds. For every email sent, it would take Ritani 4 days or more to hear back. Their chat feature had very limited availability on weekends/holidays, which again is not ideal when creating a diamond ring. Rare Carat had no limited availability and any follow-up questions to our customizations were answered within 2 days at most. As for the setting - Chose the Bellora hidden halo setting with claw prongs and a 2mm 18k gold band. The diamond is a 2.83 carat, VS1 clarity, G color. The diamond reflects nice and white. Rare Carat's craftsmanship was miles better than Ritani. Ritani has a workshop on site, so we were baffled to see crooked prongs and a wonky basket getting the "OK" from Quality Control. We were devastated and decided to do a return and start over with Rare Carat. I was short on time, and I needed the ring on a certain date because we were going to be out of town. This was during the July 4th weekend, but Rare Carat was able to accommodate! As soon as I received the box, I knew we made the right choice in choosing Rare Carat. The Ritani ring box was saran wrapped to the inside of the box and the ring was loose inside the box. Rare Carat's ring box was secure and came with a pair of diamond earrings and a cleaning cloth. Everything was packaged with care and the signed note card from the packer was a nice touch. The prongs and basket were perfect and symmetrical. She wanted a hidden halo basket and even though the diamonds around the basket were the same exact specs as the setting from Ritani, Rare Carat seemed to sparkle more and appeared whiter. Additionally, the 18k gold band from Ritani was lighter (in weight and color) than the 18k gold band from Rare Carat. Think of that what you will but overall it felt like we were getting ripped off from Ritani. We will be purchasing our wedding rings from Rare Carat too! On a side note - Ajay helped me throughout the entire process. What CEO does that?! He responded to my emails within hours and if he had to reach out to vendors, he would let me know that same day! I don't think that guy ever takes a day off. I think Ajay has really changed the diamond game. Out of all of the top diamond retailers, their interface was the easiest to use. They make it easy to compare multiple diamonds and you can look up diamonds by their cert number to compare prices. Customers now have the ability to choose every aspect of their ring without having to go into retail stores and feel like they are getting ripped off/settling. If you're unsure of where to go, go with Rare Carat. They have 5 stars for a reason. We will be customers for life! -Kirk & Korah

10/10 would use again. I was pretty concerned getting a ring online. From being scammed to getting a ring that looks nothing like what I ordered. However when it showed up I was baffled, it was EVEN MORE beautiful than I thought it would be. The process was super easy, I already knew the ring design I wanted which helped. But choosing a setting and a rock was a great process, they make it as simple as they can. They give great details when it comes to the stone, really made the whole process seem like a completely custom ring how I wanted. Delivery was prompt, took about 3 weeks from time to order which I thought was pretty good considering they have to make the setting and receive the stone. I got a more beautiful, custom ring with a warranty for a fraction of what big jewelers would have charged. For any guy looking to get a ring for that special person but don’t want a generic ring from a jeweler, this is the place.
