Getting Into Details: Our Quality Framework

Diamond Sourcing & Verification

We source our diamonds exclusively from elite sightholders / the same trusted suppliers used by the biggest diamond jewelry brands in the United States. Every diamond is certified by one of the industry’s top grading labs: GIA, IGI, or GCAL. Once a diamond arrives at our facility, it goes through a detailed two-step verification process, all under camera:

  1. First, we conduct an inscription check. Using magnification between 60x and 110x, we locate the microscopic laser inscription on the diamond’s girdle and match it to the certificate number. If the inscription isn’t clear or legible, we send the diamond back to the lab for correction. Unclear Diamond Inscription Details (Before) Vs. Now-Clear Diamond Inscription Details after lab correction (After)

  2. Next, we test for authenticity using professional-grade UV fluorescence machines. These devices help verify that the stone is exactly what it claims to be. For rarer diamonds, such as Type IIa, we take extra steps - running tests with a Yehuda machine or sending the stone to GIA New York for further confirmation. Test results by a Yehuda machine

To our knowledge, Rare Carat is the only online jewelry brand that documents this full process, and captures in on camera.

Jewelry Craftsmanship

Each ring is handcrafted by expert jewelers in our New York and New Jersey workshops. We don’t do mass production — every piece is made with care, one at a time, by craftspeople who truly love what they do. Once a ring is finished, it goes through microscopic quality assurance. Our independent QA specialists inspect each piece under magnification. If anything doesn’t meet our standards, even a small detail, we remelt the setting and start from scratch. There are no shortcuts.

Packaging & Delivery

Each piece is carefully boxed in branded, premium packaging, complete with protective materials and a sleek finish. It’s a presentation that feels as special as the ring itself. You can see exactly what it looks like in our unboxing video.

To ensure accuracy, all shipments are packed under camera. This helps us double-check that the correct items are included.

Every order is fully insured during shipping, and an adult signature is required upon delivery for added security.

Gemologist Guidance

Customers' ability to directly talk with a certified gemologist is what makes Rare Carat special. To top it off, it's a free service provided by us.

Our team includes over 100 graduate gemologists, all trained at GIA, the most respected gemological institute in the world. Many of them have direct experience grading diamonds at the GIA lab itself.

These experts are here to offer advice with integrity. They’re instructed to recommend only diamonds they would feel confident buying for a close friend or loved one. If a diamond has visible flaws or other concerns, they will point them out. Their goal isn’t to sell, it’s to guide. You may even ask our gemologists about a diamond sold elsewhere or a family diamond of yours.

The opinions you receive are unfiltered and grounded in real expertise. Their feedback is always focused on helping you choose a diamond that will look truly beautiful in person.

Rare Carat Offers Superior, High-Resolution Diamond Imagery with Professional 360° Videos for Maximum Transparency

Rare Carat features over one million diamonds with images and 360 videos, all sourced from thoroughly vetted wholesalers.

The 360° videos you see on our site are captured using professional tools of the highest standard used in the global jewelry trade. These videos are high resolution and are not edited or retouched. They’re specifically designed to reveal details like clarity characteristics and how the diamond handles light.

Because we work with several suppliers, the video backgrounds and formats may vary depending on the imaging equipment each one uses. This variation doesn’t reflect a difference in product or imagery quality, it’s simply the result of offering a large, diverse inventory with complete transparency.

Our goal is to give you the clearest and most accurate view of each stone. That means we focus on showing what the diamond actually looks like and exposing the flaws it might have - regardless if every video looks exactly the same (eg. having a light grey or darker gray background behind the diamond).

At the end of the day, we know how important this purchase is. It’s not just a ring. It’s a symbol of a moment, and it has to be perfect.

That’s why our team obsesses over the details, and that’s why thousands of real customers have left thousands of happy online reviews. We’ll let them do the talking, and we’ll keep doing what we’ve always done: delivering top-quality diamonds, obsessively crafted rings, and expert advice that actually helps.
