What are VVS diamonds?

VVS diamonds are a special type of stone highly sought after and sometimes scarcely available on the market. VVS is the letter grade as part of the clarity scale when characterizing and certifying a diamond. Very Very Slightly included is what it stands for, meaning the diamond has very very few natural inclusions within its structure. A VVS diamond is a solid investment and makes for a beautiful center stone for any piece of jewelry you have in mind.

Inclusions

Thousands of meters underneath the earth's crust is the location of diamond formation. A little ball of carbon becomes heated and pressurized so much that it hardens and takes shape and becomes what we know as a 'diamond in the rough'. Once the rough stone is sent for polishing, the inclusions (marks within the stone black, grey, white or otherwise) are taken into account. This careful planning allows the diamond to be cut with the least number of inclusions in the final polished stone. When this occurs, and most of the inclusions are polished off, or the rough diamond never had many natural inclusions to begin with, a VVS diamond is born.

Certifications

There are certain entities within the gemological world that grade diamonds and give them their credentials. Just like a diamond may look one way to one person, another person may grade it a bit differently, after all, they are using two different pairs of eyes. The most common grading reports for diamonds are GIA for natural stones and IGI or GCAL for lab grown.

Prices

The clarity factor is only one of the parts that go into making up the price of a diamond. That being said, any VVS stone is going to be more costly than a diamond with a lower clarity. Everyone is working with a budget, and when choosing a VVS stone, most of that money is going to the diamond's amazing clarity. You can always compromise in terms of color and carat weight to find a VVS stone that fits your budget.

A VVS stone of any size and any color is a breathtaking addition to whatever jewelry design you have in mind. Make sure to check out the make of the stone and its polish and symmetry, as these small details make the clarity of the stone pop even more! Happy Shopping (Search Diamonds to get started)!
